About Us

Feisty Crab Snacks was launched in 2021 in Berwyn, Illinois as a crab charms business (formerly Feisty Crab Charms).  As a big fan of crabs, originally Feisty Crab Charms specialized in selling items like crab shoe charms and crab pop fidget toys.  The branding was done by an amazing artist on Fiverr (annbodsgn) that helped me create the logo from my concept art on the left crab to the final design of the right crab.  

After a year of modest success drop shipping crab charms and toys, things took a turn for the worse when Etsy shut down my store.  I was left to list everything on eBay besides some crab charms that I hand painted (see number 8 below) and sales declined rather quickly.  I ventured into buying and reselling other miscellaneous items like Yeezy Pods and Stanley Cups for a while but eventually was shut down by eBay due to shipping delays. To keep my shop online I created my Shopify store that are seeing now.  So how did I go from selling crab charms to healthy snacks?  I will explain more below. 

                     

My passion for food nutrition started in 2022 ever since I went to the doctor and was told I have high cholesterol and not so great bloodwork.  I knew I had to start improving my health, but did not know how.  I was told by my doctor to cut out fried foods, cheese, butter, red meat, egg yolks and processed foods.  However, this did not sit with me too well and I knew I had to do my own research.  I eventually went down the rabbit hole that is food nutrition.  I took the Stanford Introduction to Food and Health course on Coursera, started listening to health podcasts, and following nutrition influencers like Bobby Parrish, Realfoodology, nolabcoatrequired, thefoodbabe, and paulsaladinomd.  I soon learned what I should be eating to get healthier and that most food companies are putting profits over people.  I downloaded the "Bobby Approved" app and was a bit alarmed at how so many different food items were not approved.  This includes the Kirkland Trail Mix which I was addicted to around the time I started making my own.

I have always dreamed of creating my own food business and eventually received a timely email from Stickermule for a deal on stand up pouches.  Of course the first thing I had in mind was to create my own trail mix!  I knew the ingredients had to all be "Bobby Approved" and I sourced the best ingredients I could find to create a better for you version of Kirkland Trail Mix.  I eventually found the organic nuts, raisins and chocolates I needed from Nuts.com, Amazon and Costco.  I had a really fun time designing the package for the now defunct trail mix sample packs (see below)!

After a suggestion from my friends Joey and Julie, I eventually got my food handler card in 2024 (see below) shortly after I started selling trail mix on eBay.  I learned a lot more than I thought I would from the course including food safety methods and certain laws and regulations related to selling your own food products online or in person. 

I got some good feedback from the people that tested out the trail mix sample packs and decided to make an official jumbo version similar to the Kirkland Trail Mix bag you would find at Costco.  With more practice, I am always learning how to make this product better and appreciate all the feedback I have received so far!  Better roasting methods and the addition food desiccant (as a safe preservative) have this product right on par with the Kirkland Trail Mix in my eyes which was my original goal. 

Feisty Crab Brownie Mix was inspired by my favorite brownie mix that was  discontinued (Annie's Organic Brownie Mix).  This brownie mix took a lot more research and development than I thought it would and is still a work in progress.  I was so disappointed they got rid of this brownie mix that I offered to buy it from them and requested the recipe to no avail (as they said they may bring it back in the future).  Similar to the Trail Mix I researched and sourced the best and healthiest "Bobby Approved" brownie mix ingredients you could use. I am satisfied with the current version of the brownie mix, but I am always striving for perfection!  It is only matter of time before I can get this up to par with Annie's Brownie Mix!  

So I am officially done with selling any Crab Charms in 2024 and am all in on creating better for you versions of Kirkland Trail Mix and Annie's Brownie Mix!  So Grab a bag of Feisty Crab Trail Mix and Feisty Crab Brownie Mix to support my goal of creating better for you snack options!
